17 May Big news! Former First Assistant Secretary of Australia, Murray McLean AO, joins ArtChain Global as a senior adviser.
Former First Assistant Secretary of Australia, Mr. McLean, has joined ArtChain Global (hereinafter referred to as ACG) as a senior adviser, making him the top former Australian government official to join the blockchain industry. During his tenure at the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. McLean was in charge of Asian affairs, with extensive artistic resources and government connections in Australia and other Asian countries. This will help ACG to connect more efficiently with high-level art organizations across Asia, accelerating ACG’s application in the art world.
Mr. McLean made a significant contribution as an Australian diplomat
Murray McLean AO was awarded Order of Australia Medal in 1991 for his outstanding performance in international relations, especially as Consul General of the Australian Consulate General in Shanghai. Officer of the Australian Medal of valor was awarded in 2013 for his outstanding contribution to the advancement of Australian diplomacy. These medals are Australia’s top honors for those who have made great contributions to the country.
Mr. Murray McLean has long served as an important position in the Australian Foreign Affairs Department, an expert on foreign relations in the Asian region of Australia and has a wide range of government resources. Mr. McLean is also a veteran art collector and a great admirer of Asian art.
Mr. Murray McLean’s experience:
Murray McLean AO is an Asia specialist with significant experience across numerous countries, including in particular: Japan, China, South East Asia (notably Singapore) and North Korea. Formerly a senior officer of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), he currently serves as Chair of the Australia Japan Foundation; Chair of the Foundation of Australia-Japan Studies; member of the Board of the Australia Japan Business Cooperation Committee and Chairman of his family company. He was earlier a Vice Chancellor’s Professorial Fellow at Monash University and a non-resident Fellow at the Lowy Institute of International Policy.
Murray was instrumental in formulation of Australian policy towards Asia, including roles as Ambassador to Japan (2004-2011), Deputy Secretary of DFAT (2004), First Assistant Secretary, North Asia Division (2001-2003), High Commissioner in Singapore (1997-2001); Assistant Secretary, East Asia Branch, (1992-1996), and Consul General, Shanghai (1987-1992). His earlier postings were at the Australian Embassy in Washington D.C., the Australian Embassy in Beijing (twice) and in Hong Kong, where he studied Chinese language, which he speaks fluently.
